How About Now?

It was a nice Saturday morning in August. My daughter, an endearing five-year-old named Rhaylee, was excited. She knew it was our Saturday morning routine to visit a local coffee shop which is part of a larger store called DistinctiveDecor.com. It is a website with a sole brick-and-mortar store located just a little over a mile from our home. Several of my dear friends work there or even own it. One of the dearest, Tana, always prepares our drinks. Rhaylee loves the compliments she receives from the staff and had a new dress to show them.

While I was locked in the bathroom…

Rhaylee: [knocking on door]

Me: I am in the bathroom.

Rhaylee: I need you!

Me: Can it wait till I am finished?

Rhaylee: No!

Me: What do you need?

Rhaylee: There’s a tag on my dress I need cut off!

Me:

Rhaylee:

Me: Well, I certainly understand the emergency.

The tag was promptly addressed upon my exit from my private space. Shortly after…

Rhaylee: Daddy! Is it time to go to Ms. Tana’s yet? [what Rhaylee calls Distinctive Decor]

Me: Not yet. It does not open for another twenty minutes.

Rhaylee:

Me:

Rhaylee: How about now?

Me: No.

Rhaylee: Now?

Me: No.

Rhaylee: Now?

Me: No.

Rhaylee: How about now?

Me:

Rhaylee:

Me: No.

There are many things you can think to do when starting up a new diet. You may want to download the rights apps to track your eating. Appointments need to be scheduled with healthcare professionals. Diets often require careful consideration of what food to buy. So you may spend a lot of time writing menus or lists.

When I decided to start, I did not wait for an app, an appointment, a menu or even a diet. I started with an idea and immediately went to work. I started by reducing my meals to one serving only of whatever was in my house that looked good. And I repeated that every hour. Many modifications came after. But nothing delayed my pursuit.

Want to go vegan? Take out that can of almonds, look on the box and measure out one serving. Then write it down somewhere, anywhere to get started.

Want to go low carb? Find that chicken breast in the freezer, cook it, measure out one serving and eat it. Then write it down somewhere, anywhere to get started.

Then call the doctor, the dietician. Then download the app. Then order your food scale. Then write out your menus, your grocery lists, your goals…

Is someone telling you to wait? Are you?

“And do this, understanding the present time: The hour has already come for you to wake up from your slumber…” Romans 13:11 NIV

This may not be about soul saving. But this could be life saving. The best time to get started is now.

What are you waiting for?

Ready to start?

How about now?
